It appears the following binaries in /usr/lib/jvm/j2sdk1.6-oracle
don't get linked properly from /etc/alternatives :

apt    (a confusing file name for Java to use in Debian ...)
HtmlConverter
java_vm
jcontrol
jhat
jrunscript
schemagen
wsgen
wsimport
xjc
