The java policy you are reading is the latest ;-) > So, for a wana be Java packager, where can he find answers to his elementary > questions like: > - How do we manage different servlet containers? Tomcat 4 can run with JDK 1.3, but what if > the webapp needs Java 1.4 or 5.0... > - etc These are very good questions ;-) Maybe we can answer you at the fosdem :-D http://www.google.be/search?q=fosdem+gnu+classpath+friends+devroom+2006 If you can't come to Belgium this week end, maybe we can start some discussion about webapp packaging. I like the subject and I think it'd be good to improuve Debian-Java. We should find a location for 'conatiner agnostic' webapps. About the JDK, you can depend on a particular JDK release and warn in your README.Debian file, but I don't know if you could do something else because nothing prevent the user to install another JVM and run tomcat or whatever container with another JVM. > All these kind of questions/answers have already been answered for libraries > and stand-alone Java applications, but I haven't found references to the > Debian way for Web applications (No, drop the WAR file into the webapps > directory answer is not the Debian way for me!) 1° Those questions are not completely resolved for libs and apps and will be / should be discussed; 2° Those questions have never been asked about webapps.
