Indeed, the main reason I'm lurking here (oops, guess I'm not just lurking anymore :-) is the hope that I'll notice when we reach the point of having a sufficient Free(libre) java environment, because of the rejoicing here... in the meantime (especially as I do more systems programming for which java is currently unsuited) than app programming) I don't particularly need it, any more than I need VB or Flash environments. (OK, that's harsh, there's enough stuff to do *some* things Freely, but much off-the-shelf java code tends to use non-Free components for whatever reason...)
