Hmm, what happens if you use LTDL_LIBRARY_PATH instead of LD_LIBRARY_PATH? This is essentially what the gij-wrapper script is doing. If LD_LIBRARY_PATH works but LTDL_LIBRARY_PATH does not then the wrapper script will need to be changed.
