I posted the message below to the snort users mailing list and received a reply that I need to update, even though I am running testing.
However I did a quick apt-get remove/install but this did not help, I still got the same errors. Any help appreciated, otherwise I will raise a bug report. Wow. misc-lib? Sounds like you *really* need to update your installation of snort.
