ok, risolto anche questo. Bastava aggiungere questa linea al /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc:se non ricordo male è il file ~/.bashrc, devi mettere lì dentro gli script per far impostare il nuovo path per il solo utente.
UserPath=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/X11R6.8/bin;/usr/games
