Binding Multiple IP's to a single NIC

Would someone mind pointing a brain-dead user in the right direction?   I've made the eth0:1 entry in my interfaces file, but I get the following errors.   ifup eth0:1 SIOCSIFADDR: No such device SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device SIOCSIFBRDADDR: No such device SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device Thanks,   Lem
