I suggest DJB's qmail. You can get the Source Tarball at http://cr.yp.to (official) or http://www.qmail.org (unoff). Qmail is the most powerful MTA i ever saw. Various big freemail provider use qmail, like GMX for example and even Microsofts Hotmail Service uses (or is still using) qmail as outgoing mailserver.
