I was just wondering if you all use STP in your server rooms. We have been using UTP, but recently I have been getting 'carrier errors' on interfaces in one rack. After changing the cables to longer coiled UTP cables and tucking the excess in the between the server and rack, carrier errors increased. All the servers that have their coils in between the rack wall and the servers are getting 'carrier' type errors. Could this be EMI noise from inside the server rack ?
We have a Symettra RM APC UPS at the bottom of the stack with 2 different versions of firmware on the power modules, which may be causing part of the problem. The server rack has both metal doors on it. The IBM metal racks have thousands of tiny holes in the metal front an rear doors for air flow, so I thought EMI could not get in from outside metal rack.
