Compiling Exim 4.20 from source and making a deb package

Hi Guys

I need to compile exim 4.20 on a woody box and create
a deb package to deploy to other mail servers.

Any ideas on how to do this without breaking apt-get
or dpkg or causing dependency problems ?>

Any help would be greatly appreciated at this point.
