I have a laptop which is based on that same chipset. I've gotten
network, video, sound, usb, firewire(maybe, not tested) working.
The only thing I couln't get running was the winmodem.
Most drivers are default in the kernel now
Sis900 Network
TI IEEE OHCI
SVGA Framebuffer
XFree4 with vesa driver (Don't run SIS driver...)
USB with usb-ohci
sound with Sis/Via/Trident driver
This is under kernel 2.4.5 and 2.4.6
Hope you get it working.
