Hi,

there are some maintainers providing debconf translations for their mother tongue.

There are pros like lower workload for the language teams and cons like missing reviews and possible inconsistent debconf translations. I don't want to start a discussion on the
preferable approach.

What about adding a comment in the header like
"# My name is Max Mustermann. I am the current maintainer of this package. I am a native # speaker of <language> and provide the debconf translations for <language>."?

Christian may continue nagging ( :-) ) translators and maintainers, translation team members can avoid duplicate efforts and maintainers are informed, when "somebody" recommends
an i18n upload.

Cheers
  Martin
