My reading of http://bugzilla.xfree86.org/show_bug.cgi?id=544 is that upstream moved ISO10646 fonts at the bottom of the file because few fonts covered most glyphs. In your comment, you tell that unifont can be used for these languages. This package is part of Chinese tasks (from tasksel), but not Japanese ones. The latter contain several other font packages. Thus I am quite inclined to change zh_TW.UTF-8/XLC_LOCALE as requested, On the other hand, Japanese users will most likely have other fonts installed, so isn't it better to leave ISO10646 at the bottom of ja_JP.UTF-8/XLC_LOCALE? The patch provided by Akira TAGOH at http://bugzilla.xfree86.org/show_bug.cgi?id=544 is the opposite of the one proposed by Tatsuki Sugiura in http://bugs.debian.org/255701 thus I am quite puzzled. I believe that Mike Fabian does a great job with CJK for SuSE, and they ship a ja_JP.UTF-8/XLC_LOCALE file similar to Tetralet's one, but maybe they have other fonts installed? Tatsuki Sugiura, could you please check with other Japanese people what changes should be made to ja_JP.UTF-8/XLC_LOCALE under Debian?
