 Once in a while, I had to stop abruptly (mostly the VM, did not do much real 
hardware), and that cause most of the time
 the system to need fsck at next rebbot. With ext3 or other journaling fs, you 
don't get to see a fsck needed.
 But for me, almost every time, fsck seems to fix the problems.
