However, looking more closely at your initial bug report, it seems that
you are using an amd64 kernel on an i386 installation. There is a know
kernel bug (#518921) for the version you are using, that *may* explain
your problem. However it only occurs if you have libc6-i686 *not*
installed. Do you know if this package was installed or not when you had
the problem (hint: you could have a look at /var/log/dpkg.*)?

The segfault has returned. I removed the .frozen-bubble directory and it
did not resolve the segfault.
I'm pretty sure that libc6-i686 /was/ installed when I filed the
original report. During the various investigation phases, the library
was removed. I reinstalled it a moment ago and it did not resolve the
segfault.
I've removed libc6-i686 and frozen-bubble. I think we've spent enough
time on this and haven't been able to reproduce it on any system but
this one.
You mention amd64 kernel on an i386 installation. I'm not sure how that
happened, or if it is a problem. The only thing that doesn't work on
this system is powersaved, and that seems to be related to it not being
a 64 bit app. I run Eclipse, Firefox, mplayer (although mplayer/testing
segfaults), kde, realplayer, acroread...
