Denis is right, I forgot about this, which we indeed discussed together at Debconf. <U00A0> is a non breaking space which makes much more sense than a space for numbers separator because it theoretically prevents number to be wrapped at line ends. Not sure whether MS environments use it or a "normal" space, but nothing prevents us from being better than them, right ? :-)
