After the reassignement of this bug I realized that the problem seems alike the bug #59429 already filed against libc6. As a one time solution I copied from a slink machine XF86_SVGA (unlike for the bug #59429 for which the xserver is S3) and startx worked fine again. Therefore the problems seems to not be specific of an xserver, but of the library they have been linked with.
