*SMACK* a) I told you that install-info should not access the backup directory when running with an appropriate --infodir= option. I believe I even filed a bug on it. That would be #158299. I think it's reasonable, but discussion belongs there, not here. b) That error is NOT fatal. Notice: > make[3]: *** [install] Error 139 This would be the reason it didn't build from source. Has nothing to do with root or non-root.
