HDF4 4.1.12 has been released. The most significant change is the addition of the Java JNI interface. I've not enabled that in our builds (neither has the hdf5 package), but we may do that later if jhdf gets deprecated.
The symbols changes are not very worrying, the only removed symbol (SDgetchunkinfo_old) is not used by any reverse dependencies. I've done a round of rebuild with the package from experimental to double check if there are no regressions. If there are none, we can move HDF4 4.1.12 to unstable soon. We need to deal with the conflicting -dev packages to use Conflicts instead of versioned Breaks/Replace since the conflicting headers will remain for the time being. jhdf (2.11.0+dfsg-1) FTBFS due to #829166, adding a compat file allows the build to succeed with HDF4 4.1.12. All other reverse dependencies rebuilt without issues.
