qgis (2.8.3+dfsg-1) has just been accepted into unstable which disables the GRASS support in QGIS for the time being. Based on the feedback in the related upstream issue [1] we can probably expect the GRASS 7 changes from QGIS 2.12 to be backportsed to QGIS 2.8 LTR after the grass 7.0.1 packages become available. It seems a good time to upload grass (7.0.1-1) to unstable as soon as the build dependency issues are resolved, only the libgdal-grass library is left as an rdep of grass and that package still needs to be updated for gdal transition, updating both grass & libgdal-grass at the same time is likely the way to go.
