Got it, turns out that it dies in the exact same place as a previous bug
that got fixed.
Am not sure what triggers it in this situation (not that it is ever
obvious), but reverting the removal of gdc-ice-null-tree.dpatch once again
works around the wider problem, where it will probably stay - as it seems to
be more praise than what I originally gave it credit for.
