Hi,
I tried out the `elpa-dpkg-dev-el` mode from experimental and it works
fine for the deb822 files.
I would like to request that `debian/upstream/metadata` was associated
with the `yaml-mode` out of the bug. I uploaded a schema for it to the
schemastore, so standard YAML tooling (linting and LSP) should do decent
on that.
To my knowledge, it should be something like this:

'auto-mode-alist '("/debian/upstream/metadata\\'" . yaml-mode))
```
at least when it is in an ~/.emacs file - might require a bit more in
`elpa-dpkg-dev-el`'s case.

PS: Please do not do that for `debputy.manifest` yet. I am still
contemplating the best way forward there as there are things that cannot
be expressed in the schema.
