I think that there is challenge parity between AlekSIS and GOsa. AlekSIS is not yet in Debian, but has an active upstream and the LDAP Management bit currently is making good progress.
While GOsa² 2.7.x is in Debian, but entirely broken with PHP 8.{1,2}. My hope was that the in-prep gosa 2.8.x is providing much better PHP 8.x support, but I had to start patching my way through PHP 8.x fixes already and haven't gotten around to a running GOsa², yet.
IMHO, we should work on both ends (GOsa/PHP8.x _and_ AlekSIS goes Debian) and see who/what project achieves the goal best.
