I'd like to see that the idea is useful first. That's why I suggest to make a private repository with modified packages. Please don't concentrate your efforts on this package alone. I said that I would keep the bug open for reference, but I don't plan to apply the patch very soon. Maybe I apply only to experimental, or maybe I just add the DPKG_ROOT variable for a start so that you don't have to modify it a lot for your private repository. Thanks.
