We may need more information than those you provided, though: - version of the samba package before and after the update - other smb.conf* files in /etc/samba Please also note that an accidental upload of samba 3.2.0~pre2 happened to unstable and will be reverted pretty soon (blame /me for the mistake). This upload theoretically didn't change smb.conf, though.
