So Joey and Manoj are having a `friendly' discussing about the best way to implement an installer package for realplayer, I wondered how the other distributions do it.
Now I have not bothered to look because I am to lazy, but my best guess is that RedHat includes a copy of the Realplayer code. They have talked to RealNetworks and sorted this all out, the version of RealPlayer that the current Debian installer uses is the rpm. So maybe we could do the same, ask for permission to include the code in a .deb in non-free on our mirror sites, and on non-free CDs. I know that this would mean that we would be going out of the way to support non-free software, but so is an installer. In September 1999 I sent an e-mail to RealNetworks asking them about this idea. When I got the following response in December 1999 I gave up: Date: Mon, 27 Dec 1999 20:57:06 -0800 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Realplayer for Debian GNU/Linux [#6430953] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Edward, Thanks for contacting RealNetworks Technical Support.
