I have had several suggestions, all of which are implemented in this particular route table: Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 199.44.194.10 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 ppp0 10.1.1.10 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 eth0 10.1.1.20 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 eth0 10.1.1.20 10.1.1.10 255.255.255.255 UGH 0 0 0 eth0 10.1.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 0.0.0.0 199.44.194.10 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 ppp0 When I do: route add -host 10.1.1.10 dev eth0 route add -host 10.1.1.20 dev eth0 on both machines, the ping still doesn't work, but I get the PKT light on the hub to blink in time with the pings. This seems to indicate that the hardware is "doing the right thing". I still think there is something missing from route...
