This would be GREAT. Yes, I am sure it would be possible to display some intro text on a startup when you invoke vi with no arguments. (VIM already does this). The only question is *which* VI to put on a rescue disk. Minimally built VIM is 350k, which is probably too much :) Also, it uses ncurses. If there is an interest, I could dig up some other vi versions (even very old ones) to find the smallest "free" vi.
