Agreed; while there are good points to be made about maintainership and streamlining packages etc. -- under the current best practices this is overshooting IMO.

I had thought of possibly suggesting an update to the documentation, but
I'm not sure that adding more words would make the matter any more
clear.

I think the docs are okay.
