The difficulty isn't so much making the change, once (though that can be a problem), but making the change every time something comes from the original source, changed. Sometimes this isn't much of a problem (maybe the source has been stable for the last 11 years and needs a new caretaker anyways, or maybe the original author is receptive to changes).
