Here are three package selections to start things off. They are based on the package priorities: The first includes only "base", the second adds "important", and the third adds "standard". The only real oddity is that gcc and cpp are among "base". Is this only because dpkg needs it, to get the current architecture? Otherwise, it might better be moved into "standard" with the rest of the development tools.
Here are statistics on the three collections: select-base.gz 42532 KB main=74 contrib=0 non-free=0 select-important.gz 49710 KB main=91 contrib=0 non-free=0 select-standard.gz 125344 KB main=143 contrib=0 non-free=0 None have any packages from "contrib" or "non-free". The difference in size between the first two is small, and I think the added packages (including nvi and cpio) are important enough that we should not bother with "base". I am attaching the list of packages. I'll mail the (gzipped/uuencoded) selection files directly to Enrique Zanardi. - Jim Van Zandt ----- "base" ------- adduser ae base-files base-passwd bash binutils bsdmainutils bsdutils comerr2g cpp data-dumper debianutils dialog diff dpkg dpkg-ftp e2fslibsg e2fsprogs fdflush fileutils findutils gcc grep gzip hostname kbd kernel-headers-2.0.32 ldso libc5 libc6 libc6-dev libg++272 libgdbmg1 libjpegg6a libnet-perl libreadlineg2 lilo login makedev mawk mbr menu mime-support modconf modutils motifnls mount ncurses-base ncurses-bin ncurses3.4 newt0.21 passwd perl perl-base procps psmisc sed setserial shellutils slang0.99.38 ss2g sysklogd syslinux sysvinit tar textutils timezones update util-linux whiptail xlib6 xlib6g xpm4.7 xpm4g ----- "important" also has the following: ----- at bc cpio cron dc dpkg-dev ed groff info libdb2 mailx make man-db manpages nvi patch smail ------ "standard" also has the following: ------ biff bin86 bison cvs debian-policy dnsutils doc-debian doc-linux doc-linux-text dpkg-perl electric-fence elm-me+ emacs20 emacsen-common file flex gdb gpm iamerican ispell less libg++272-dev liblockfile0 libpam0g libpam0g-util libpwdb0g locales lpr lsof m4 manpages-dev mh mpack mtools ncurses-term ncurses3.4-dev netbase netstd pdksh ppp ppp-pam procmail rcs sharutils strace tcsh tetex-base tetex-bin tetex-extra time wenglish zlib1g -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
