I may be misunderstanding, but given what immediately follows ("I
don't know whether [...]) it seems to me that you're attaching
a negative connotation to this statement.
In case that's indeed how you feel about it, please consider the
possibility that Microsoft may not *always* be wrong. They may even
occasionally come up with great ideas.
Of course, you're fully entitled to disagree with the reasoning itself
(and it seems to be clearly the case here). And then, the debate we
should have is about the reasoning itself; its possible resemblance
with Microsoft's sayings feels completely off-topic to me.
