Package: general Severity: normal Tags: lfs Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation? I installed a fresh Debian with GNOME. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I want to install new packages and update the existing ones. * What was the outcome of this action? I went to the Applications > System Tools menu. There I found three tools that have to do with software installation: * GDebi * Software Updates * Add/Remove Software * What outcome did you expect instead? I expected to find a single tool for managing the installed software. I think GDebi would fit nicely into the menu of Add/Remove Software, as System > Install individual package. I also expected that updating packages is so related to configuring the package source lists that I they would be in the same application, but they aren't. The configuration is in the Add/Remove packages, and the Update Software is basically non-interactive, so that I can't configure anything there. -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.8 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-devel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
