Great that you have interest in packaging E18. I dearly recommend you to consider join the Debian e17 Maintainer Group and collaborate with them on getting packages in shape for Debian: https://wiki.debian.org/PkgE That's also my recommendation for other packaging interests: Look at packaging teams e.g. at https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/#Packaging_teams and grow knowledge on packaging for your own needs by collaboratin with more experienced developers in maintaining packages for everyone.
