All of these packages are generally compatible with libav. The problem with mplayer is that it hasn't seen an upload since two years. It would be equally incompatible with current ffmpeg as it is incompatible with current libav. If people really need mencoder, the mplayer source package could be modified so that it only builds mencoder.
