I very much like the idea to give a chance to all solutions before we
decide which one we should keep. At least, I would like to have enough
time to work with the GSoC student on OpenRC this summer, to see how it
turns out.

Nobody prevents you to use and test it *now*. Systemd is in Debian, and
many package provide support for it. If you were to send me some patches
to support it (or upstart...), I'd happily apply the patch, and I'm sure
that many other DDs would do the same.

Though, I'm really not sure that if Debian decides to adopt Systemd now,
rather than a bit later, it will influence its development, or change
anything at all upstream.

I don't think this is what Wouter was talking about (eg, he never said
we should leave this as a choice to the user). He's basically saying
that *we* need time to test things, and see how they are, and make a
choice later, with enough information in hands. I agree with that view
(Wouter, tell me if I read your message wrongly, I all but want to put
words in your mouth that you never said).
