I agree with the above. I might just be naive about the following, but Debian Developers essentially have root access to any Debian box: all it takes is one crafty postinst script and an upgrade. If Debian and its users trust developers with that kind of responsibility, it should also be able to trust developers to follow a basic guideline of "Please test-build your package and check the resulting binary before doing a source-only upload."
