You can see the status of diaspora and gitlab packaging efforts at http://people.debian.org/~boutil/ The graphs are generated using scripts written by Cedric https://gitorious.org/debian-diaspora/gemdeps You may start with generating a dependency graph for gitorious. Some of the dependencies might already be packaged for diaspora or gitlab. Looking forward to working with you.
