4.7 intoduces major (MAJOR) changes in the Objective-C runtime, and several of the projects I work with depend on the older GNU libobjc runtime of 4.6. So for me it is better if the default gcc stays at 4.6. It is always possible for a user to install several versions of GCC and the select among them at compile time, so this is not a sacrifice for the user. Right now, on my Debian Wheezy system, I've got gcc 4.7, 4.6, and 4.45. The packagers have done an excellent job of fiddling the file names and paths so these things can live in piece.
