I have been "speaking" with David Engel about the current problems with libc5 and libc6. I have agreed to take over these packages (with a boost up the learning curve from David) and become their maintainer. While I am not as informed as I would like to be, as to the inner workings of these libraries, it is time for me to learn what I can about their construction and installation. While this makes me an inferior candidate in some ways, I have been the only one to respond to David's frustrations finding help with these packages.
If anyone else has a more pressing need to maintain these packages, now is the time to step forward. If I hear no objections, I will work toward applying David's patch and getting a new release of libc5 out ASAP (hopefully before the end of the week). My goal is to get a libc5 that can be installed on a bo system and allow a clean upgrade path to libc6. Any and all help will be appreciated, so don't hesitate to comment if you think it will help.
