Guys, this bug report is a duplicate of http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=530024 The fixed version is not in testing yet. It's not a question of different choices in Debian and in Ubuntu, the described behaviour is simply not OK for the result of a default install but we took years to fix it (while Ubuntu was quick to add a hack for this).
