Sounds reasonable to me, this would bring the Debian menu closer to the FreeDesktop menu, which has AudioVideo and more specific sub-categories. I'd suggest filing a bug on the menu package and maybe lintian once menu is added. Please note that the Debian menu is not shown by Debian GNOME by default.
