I'm not familiar with LUK, but by the description it seems you might be missing the point: it doesn't matter if the _user_ has root access per default or not, if the driver is running in kernel-mode - which seems to be the case for LUK - you're opening up to the same security problems. Unless you have something like ndiswrapper, which has its own set of problems and limitations.
