I thought the normal mips(el) port runs just fine on the Longson. But if you must start from scratch then you have a long road ahead of you. You need to build a lot of stuff and a lot of that manually till you have everything needed for a minimal build chroot. Often you will want to build only parts of a source, e.g. skip all the docs because you 1) don't need them and 2) don't have latex yet.
