I was approached by the maintainer of libmtp in Ubuntu regarding a fix for LP#197968 [1]. The bug reporter cites the file /etc/udev/rules.d/README (which does not exist in Debian), that says:The udev daemon watches this directory with inotify so that changes to these files are automatically picked up, for this reason they must be files and not symlinks to another location as in the case in Debian. Are there plans to enforce files under /etc/udev/rules.d/ being regular
+1 from me.I would very much appreciate it, if we got rid of the symlinks altogether, as they don't really add any additional value.
While at it, I'd also like to see the hideous z* prefixes gone and use a consistent 2 digit numbering scheme (atm we have 3 digits [e.g. libgphoto2], 2 digits [e.g. hplip], no ordering [e.g. libmtp/libnjb], and z+2 digits [e.g. udev, alsa, hdparm, hal]).
