Hello, please see the attached message. The Debian Gnome team needs help to properly maintain the update-manager/update-notifier packages.
In this specific case, maintaining also means developing some code (in python) to properly integrate those ubuntu-originated software in Debian. Those software are important for many beginners using the Debian desktop so I hope we will find some volunteers. They have been removed from testing due to RC bugs (though those are relatively easy to fix) and really need some love as bugs tend to accumulate otherwise. http://packages.qa.debian.org/u/update-manager.html http://packages.qa.debian.org/u/update-notifier.html Cheers, -- Raphaël Hertzog Le best-seller français mis à jour pour Debian Etch : http://www.ouaza.com/livre/admin-debian/

Not really for all of my work in Debian (although for a large chunk of it =/), but I didn't have enough time to keep up the work update-notifier requires. It is quite a lot of utnubu work, figuring out where ubuntu deviates from Debian on stuff such as python-apt, and it does involve writing a bit of code and sending patches to the ubuntu maintainer from time to time. As for the removal of update-*, the problem does seem to be quite straightforward to solve, but it would really be nice to try to upgrade the package to the newest ubuntu version, too. While I have no time to be the responsible maintainer, I'm up for working with anyone who wants to get those back into testing. See you, -- Gustavo Noronha Silva <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Debian Project
