It would be however much simpler if the responsible of the GNOME, KDE and XFCE desktop packages told us what to hide, instead of us having to take the python example and generalise to any package. This discussion is getting very anecdotical and is not producing usable information for developpers wondering how to write a .desktop which can at the same time please the GNOME team and be used to generate a .menu file. In the absence of any clear guideline, my approach would be rather to be liberal by default and wait for bug reports... But I repeat, I am sure that developpers only want to trust the GNOME, KDE and XFCE teams, and just hide what has to be hidden, *if they are told what to hide*.
