Restructure, make the more important submenues appear earlier and move the unimportant stuff (shells, emulators, hamradio, ...) out of sight. In fact, I would suggest changing our menu structure a little bit, or just convert it to the fd.o specs compliant structure (see [1]). I also suggest moving away from the Debian menu files to .desktop files because of more flexible format. Therefore, if the menu using packages support the new style, they would read the menu data from those .desktop files. Since we cannot change every package delivering a menu file, this could be done by a helper package in the transition phase... this helper package would put auto-generated .desktop file into a replacement directory so the new-style-menu-generators can use those files unless real versions are provided by the correspondig package.
