Can you give sample values that those file are exporting ? The more interesting thing is to know if the kernel is aware of the fact that something has been hot-plugged and how can it give us this information. I fear that the IDE bus is not really hotplug friendly and that we simply have no way to discover this automatically (hence the need of a tool to ask for a rescan of the IDE bus by the kernel). But I'm neither an hardware expert nor a kernel specialist, so I may be wrong. I hope someone from debian-devel can enlighten us on this aspect.
