I am coding an IMAP Server based on PostgreSQL where ALL messages of a mailbox are stored in one Table and if I connect with my MUA to the IMAP-Server, I can set limit, for, e.g. the last 7 days or the last month. (option for "do not break threads" inclusive) So effectivly, if there are no limits set, it shows ALL messages. It's not the default in my MUA, because maybe it will kill your machine by consuming all memory and swap. The avantage of this system is, that you can search a Folder/Table fulltext with the power of a Database.
